University Liggett School wrote in a post that they were holding a lighting vigil to remember Honor Wallace ’22, who was killed in a tragic accident on September 24.

Whitney Wayne posted, “Healing, please extend your prayers to the sweet family of Honor Wallace.”

According to a statement from SMU Dean of Students Melinda J. Sutton, Wallace had just begun her second year at the university. They said in a statement:

“With deep sadness, I am writing to share news of the death of SMU student Honor Elizabeth Wallace, who passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023. Honor had just begun her sophomore year at SMU this Fall.”

“She was from Grosse Pointe, MI, pursuing degrees in Spanish and English. Staff members in Students Affairs are making every effort to identify those who were close to Honor to offer care and support.”

“We ask for your compassion and understanding during this time as there may be students or others who need assistance and flexibility in your classes as they learn of and process this news.”

How did Honor Wallace Die?

Honor Elizabeth Wallace lost her life on Sunday, September 24, when she was struck as she passed through a green light close to the campus at around 4:20 p.m. Lynlee Pollis, who was 27 years old the driver of another car going north ran a red light and hit Wallace’s car.

Wallace’s wounds caused her death. Pollis only got minor injuries, but she was charged with manslaughter and attack while drunk. On a $100,000 bond, she was being held at the Dallas County Jail.
